Anu grew up in New Delhi and like every supposedly ‘high-achieving’ Indian kid, dutifully went to a top Engineering college to get a degree. As a first step of rebellion, she joined Advertising after her graduation, spending the next decade in Strategic Brand Planning in leading Advertising Agencies across many countries. A highlight of this career was a three-year stint in Singapore that took her to almost every country in Asia, from Vietnam to China to Myanmar, collecting invaluable insights that would prove very handy in later life. After an epiphany in the middle of a tedious corporate conference, Anu gave up her career in Advertising to go to film school in London. She graduated in 2007 from London Film School with a rare distinction.
Her graduation films Ravi goes to school and Fock Helen and Harry travelled to many film festivals receiving critical acclaim.
She made her first feature film, a Bollywood romantic comedy called London Paris New York, produced by Fox Star Studios. It released in March 2012 to commercial and critical success.
Her second film Waiting, is an indie film starring Naseeruddin Shah, one of the most revered actors in Indian cinema and Kalki Koechlin, an award winning actress. It premiered at Dubai International Film Festival in Dec 2015 and was released in India on 27th May 2016.
Anu has recently directed the ten-part series Four More Shots Please! for Amazon India and has the biopic drama Shakuntala Devi available on Amazon Prime Video from 31st July 2020.
Anu is based in London.
